The man, who was 31 years old at the time, assured that his sentimental couple had taken their own life, shooting themselves in the head, in the middle of the New Year celebrations. However, all the evidence showed that it had been a homicide and there had been sexual abuse by the man once morest the young woman.

In addition, when the 11th Criminal Court of the Barranquilla Circuit issued his sentence in 1996, Saade’s whereregardings were a mystery. Given his family’s financial power—which, by the way, helped rig the crime scene—and connections, he left the country without a trace. It was thanks to the insistent work carried out by Martín Mestre, Nancy Mestre’s father, that it was possible to locate that he lived in Porto Alegre, where he had changed his identification with false documentation, posing as Henrique dos Santos Abdala, was married and had two children.

After an extensive process. the Supreme Court of Justice of Brazil endorsed the extradition of Mestre to serve his sentence in Colombia. After the news broke, the man from Barranquilla would have tried to continue evading the authorities, modifying his identification papers in order to leave through the border crossings.

After being notified of the capture, Nancy Mestre’s father assured that he had mixed feelings. “Joy and pain; the first because she is going to do justice and the second because no one returns my daughter to me ”, he assured in dialogue with the newspaper The Herald. “I told my wife that they were going to capture him on May 5, because that day is Nancy’s birthday, because he was four days ahead of me. Today she would be 48 and suddenly she would be a grandfather ”.

Despite everything that happened, he assured that he never lost hope of seeing his daughter’s murderer paying for what he did. Those were difficult moments when she found out that she had fled and that he had all the power to prevent her from returning to Colombia.

Saade’s defense has knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court of Justice to overturn the sentence, arguing a violation of his due process, since according to his accounts, the case is time-barred and no substantive decision can be issued. However, a ruling has not yet been issued and Mestre must arrive in the country to serve his sentence.
