Rector Jesús Madueña Molina mentioned that the march in Culiacán also responded to the defense of university autonomy before the local Congress and the state government
In a march in which at least 25,000 workers at the service of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa gathered, university employees demonstrated in favor of labor rights and in defense of university autonomy.
The march was held within the framework of International Labor Day, and was divided by contingents from the different faculties of the UAS, such as the Faculty of Law, Computer Science, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine and administrative workers.
Although the demonstration began alongside the main march on Labor Day, which included various unions, it continued individually with its own route that began at the intersection of Avenida Álvaro Obregón with José Aguilar Barraza street and ended in the central building of the UAS located in Plazuela Rosales.
In total, the march of the UAS covered two kilometers of contingents.
Rector Jesús Madueña Molina led the mobilization, pointing out that the main motivation was to defend university autonomy.
“The main reason is to denounce the violation of university autonomy by the authority, and to show solidarity with the union and the workers to give labor certainty to the workers,” said Madueña Molina.
It should be noted that the unions belonging to the Culiacán City Council and the Government of Sinaloa did not join the central demonstration on Labor Day, a situation that Madueña Molina attributed to the state authority.
“It is unfortunate that they have worked so that no union would demonstrate, I believe that this is something unprecedented, it has not happened in any government, and today that the left governs they block people from demonstrating. I believe that this is healthy, that everyone manifests, our idea of May 1, it is important that the ideas are manifested”, said the Rector.
The personnel that mobilized on behalf of the UAS carried different banners in which claims were made directed at the Governor of Sinaloa Rubén Rocha Moya.
“Mr. Governor: instead of attacking the UAS, you should brag regarding it for being one of the best at the national level”, might be read on a 5 meter long blanket.
OPPOSITION GROUP IS PRESENT
Minutes before the start of the Labor Day parade, a group opposed to the university administration broke into the contingent led by Rector Jesús Madueña Molina.
The opposition contingent, made up of 30 people, shouted slogans demanding to separate the university from political groups.
“Out with the PAS!” the protesters declared.
