From 1is May 2023, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) is launching a new free shingles vaccination program for certain specific clienteles.
The shingles vaccine is free and recommended for:
- People aged 80 and over
- Immunocompromised people aged 18 and over:
- A solid organ transplant (including bone marrow transplant)
- An immunosuppressive treatment for chronic inflammatory or autoimmune diseases (Ex: biological agents, corticosteroids at an immunosuppressive dose by oral or intravenous route, etc.)
- Chemotherapy or radiotherapy for an active cancer (haematological or malignant solid tumour)
- Congenital antibody deficiency or other primary immunodeficiency
- HIV infection
Please note that people with an autoimmune or chronic disease are considered immunocompromised if they are treated with immunosuppressive medication, as mentioned above.
For people eligible for free vaccination, it will be possible to make an appointment, via ClicHealth, at one of our vaccination sites or at one of the participating pharmacies. Check availability with the pharmacy near you.
The shingles vaccine is available on appointment only.

Vaccination in the living environments of the elderly
Vaccination in CHSLDs and private residences for seniors (RPA) is organized in order to vaccinate directly in living environments the elderly people targeted by vaccination, who cannot move around.
The shingles vaccine is also recommended for people between the ages of 50 and 79. However, these people must pay to receive it. We invite you to contact a participating pharmacy to find out the details.
