Can diabetics eat berries?
In this regard, Dr. Marwa Mohamed, a clinical nutritionist, denied the popular belief that berries threaten diabetics with high blood sugar.
Marwa said that berries are safe fruits for diabetics, stressing that it does not lead to high blood sugar as some promote, and the reason is due to its low glycemic index, which reaches 53 degrees, according to the “Healthline” website.
The nutritionist added that one of the reasons why berries do not have high blood sugar is that they contain dietary fiber, which in turn helps control glucose levels in the body, by slowing down the absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine.

A study published in the Journal of Current Advances in Nutrition showed that consuming a cup of blueberries daily for 8 weeks improved cardiovascular health in men with diabetes.
The researchers found that blueberries derive their ability to promote cardiovascular health in men with diabetes from anthocyanins, a substance that contributes to lowering triglyceride levels in the blood, according to the “Very wellhealth” website.

Another study reached similar results, as scientists noted that harmful cholesterol in the blood of mice decreased following eating blueberry powder.
The study also revealed that eating berries along with a low-fat diet helps to get rid of the rumen, thanks to its ability to reduce the fat accumulated in the abdominal area.
Marwa explained that berries provide diabetics with other very important benefits, including:
– Improve insulin sensitivity in the body.
– Strengthening the immune system.
– Stimulate blood circulation.

Tips for diabetics when eating berries
She concluded her speech by recommending that diabetics eat berries in light of the following guidelines, to ensure that they benefit from their high nutritional value:
Eat berries in moderation.
Eat berries following food.
Add berries to fruit salad.
Eat berries with yogurt.
Eat raspberry juice without sweetening it, or add bee honey to it instead of white sugar.
