The foreign ministers of Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq jointly declared the need to end the Syrian crisis and withdraw all foreign forces illegally present there from the country, the TV channel reported. Al Hadath. Negotiations on the situation in Syria were held on May 1 in Amman.

“The political solution must preserve the sovereignty of Syria, satisfy the aspirations of its people and rid it of terrorism… The political solution must lead to the withdrawal of all foreign forces illegally present in Syria. It is necessary to support Syria and its institutions in their efforts to expand control over the territories and stop foreign interference in its affairs,” the meeting participants said in a joint statement (translation TASS).

The heads of diplomatic departments intend to approve the schedule of further negotiations on the Syrian issue in the near future. The priority in the work, according to the statement, remains the voluntary return of Syrian refugees back to the country.

Al Hadath notes that the talks with the Arab states were the first for the Syrian leadership since the decision to suspend Syria’s membership in the Arab League in 2011. One of the participants in the meeting, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, stressed that the decision to return Syria to the League of Arab States was made at the national level and would be further approved by the organization “in accordance with its mechanisms.”
