This Sunday, shortly before 11 a.m., the Secova police zone was called rue de Stiersoux, in Sprimont. A man, born in 1962, had taken refuge in his home and was threatening to end his life.
“The man was allowed to own three firearms: a rifle, a riot-gun and a handgun. On the other hand, he might not hold any ammunition, ”says Catherine Collignon, First Deputy Crown Prosecutor.
The matter was taken seriously by the local police who cordoned off the perimeter, well helped by several neighboring areas. The special units of the federal police, the federal police of Liège, as well as a negotiator, intervened to bring the man to his senses.
After several hours, he finally agreed to leave his home before being arrested.
He killed his dog
Inside the house, the police found the weapons, but also the remains of his dog, which the man visibly killed with a bullet.
It would seem that the man is suicidal and has alcohol problems. It was his ex-wife who contacted the emergency services, sensing that something was wrong with her ex-husband.
He was referred to the Liège public prosecutor’s office on Monday morning for violation of the law on weapons and animal welfare. “The magistrate on duty requested that an arrest warrant be issued once morest him. The examining magistrate has not yet ruled on the question”, concludes Catherine Collignon.
