China’s largest petrochemical products supplier, Monday, began drilling the deepest oil and gas well in Asia in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The well, located on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert, is expected to be drilled at a depth of 9,472 meters, regarding 620 meters longer than the height of Mount Qomolangma, according to China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec).
According to the company, this historic well is another example of China’s leading position in ultra-deep well drilling technology.
