An operation to nab a narcotics trafficker turned sour in California last week when the suspect allegedly ran off with 60 pounds of police methamphetamine.
“It’s quite embarrassing. It’s unfortunate because we now have additional narcotics on the street,” said retiree Michael Lujan, who previously served as captain of the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, according to the Los Angeles Times on Monday.
Last week, a drug trafficker allegedly slipped through the fingers of Riverside Police Department investigators, who had posed as drug dealers in order to meet a suspect wanting to buy 27 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Except that once the drug in hand, the individual would have weighed on the gas and fled “at high speed”, and without worrying “regarding public safety”, would have indicated the department.
“Why let him go in his vehicle, I don’t know”, continued the former captain, specifying that the operations of “reverse purchase” must usually be supervised so that the trafficker cannot flee with the merchandise.
According to him, the sale would have totaled a sum of $35,000 US (approximately $47,500 CAD), reported the Los Angeles Time.
