Hugs, cries, badly suppressed tears, and smiles, at Oliver Tambo airport in Johannesburg on Saturday, South Africans went through these emotions as they welcomed their loved ones evacuated from Sudan.
Returning safe and sound to the fold following nights under bombs and heavy weapons fire was not a foregone conclusion. The violence in Sudan has already killed more than 500 people.
“It’s very hard, I can’t believe it and I can’t even speak right now, because she’s crying and she’s making me cry too, I’m really sorry. explains Mandla Hlomuka Ngidi, a father whose daughter was evacuated from Sudan.
