The prosecution of Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne) confirmed this Sunday April 30 the opening of an investigation for “aggravated sexual assault” following the complaint of a teenager born in 2007. The facts would have taken place within the framework of a universal national service (SNU) carried out in the young woman’s high school.
A serious accusation that taints one of Emmanuel Macron’s major projects. The prosecution of Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne) confirmed this Sunday April 30 the opening of an investigation for “aggravated sexual assault” following the complaint of a teenager born in 2007.
This information, initially relayed by Marianne, was confirmed by prosecutor Ombeline Mahuzier. The latter added that the investigation was entrusted to the Châlons-en-Champagne police station. The alleged facts were described in the detailed investigation of political posted a few days ago.
“The facts were allegedly committed by a supervisor who has no known criminal record, as part of an SNU carried out in a high school in the Châlons sector”, explained Ombeline Mahuzier. The magistrate is “not aware of any other reports concerning him”.
expanding universal national service
Launched in 2019 by Emmanuel Macron, the SNU offers teenagers aged 15 to 17 the opportunity to participate in a free “cohesion stay”, including sports, cultural and intellectual activities, then in an 84-hour mission of general interest.
Controversial, the SNU only concerns 32,000 young volunteers in 2022. The President of the Republic explained on April 23 that he wanted its “gradual increase”, but “without making it compulsory throughout the country overnight”.
In mid-April, the Secretary of State in charge of youth, Sarah El Haïry, seized the public prosecutor following accusations of sexual harassment, racism and humiliation during stays of the SNU, in the Hauts-de- Seine, in June and July 2022.
