karnataka assembly elections

On March 29, the Election Commission announced the dates for the assembly elections in Karnataka, and following that, a series of election propaganda followed the pre-existing trends on social media.

Like every election, this time also in the name of Karnataka elections, an attempt was made to mislead voters by sharing false and fabricated data of pre-polls survey.

In the name of BBC News, which did not conduct any pre-poll survey in India, a similar fabricated survey was viral claiming that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is going to form the government once once more in Karnataka. In fact, BBC does not conduct any kind of pre-poll survey in any election in India and in every election, an attempt is made to mislead voters by sharing such poll data in the name of BBC.

The same trends were seen in the case of Rahul Gandhi as well. After being warned once morest being sued by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s grandson Ranjit Savarkar following his conviction by a Gujarat local court in a defamation case, a viral post on social media claims that Rahul Gandhi Has removed all his tweets on BD Savarkar from his Twitter profile.

We found this claim to be false in our investigation. The claim that Rahul Gandhi’s tweets on Savarkar were deleted following Ranjit Savarkar’s threat is false and misleading, rather there are tweets on Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter timeline in which he is seen speaking on Savarkar.

After his disqualification from Parliament, Rahul Gandhi visited his parliamentary constituency Wayanad and attended a public meeting there. A short video clip of the same meeting was shared with the claim that Rahul Gandhi showed insensitive behavior by extending his hand towards a person who was physically challenged.

In our investigation, this claim was also proved to be false and a propaganda once morest Rahul Gandhi. The viral clip was a short excerpt, shared out of context with the intention of disinformation. During the meeting, a disabled person sitting on a wheelchair came to meet Rahul Gandhi and during this time he extended his right hand towards Rahul Gandhi, which Rahul Gandhi holds. This is not clearly visible in the viral clip, but watching the video of the event in longer frames makes the context clear.
