Manchester City’s Erling Haaland Makes PL History

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland tied the Premier League record for the most single-season goals with his 34th coming during Sunday’s match vs. Fulham.

Haaland scored the record-tying goal in the third minute, a goal that helped Manchester City win 2–1. Haaland now holds the record with Alan Shearer (1994–95) and Andy Cole (1993–94), who also scored 34 goals in a single season. The win put Manchester City atop the Premier League standings.

It’s likely that Haaland will break the three-decade-long record this season as Manchester City still has six matches left to go. The Norwegian reached 34 goals in 32 matches, while Shearer and Cole took the full 42 matches in their respective seasons to reach this mark.

The 22-year-old phenomenon also broke a record on Saturday as it was his 50th goal in all competitions with Manchester City. This is the most goals scored in a single English topflight season since Dixie Dean scored as many in 1931. Dean is known for holding the record with 63 goals that he scored during his 1927–28 campaign.

This has been a season of breaking records for Haaland as he already tied the Champions League record for the most goals scored in a single match when he scored five vs. RB Leipzig back in March.
