With the arrival of autumn in Brazil, the heat and sunny weather begin to mix with the colder weather and rainy days. The sudden changes in temperature favor the increase in cases of sinusitis, a disease that affects one in eight people worldwide, according to the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNSF).
“Due to lower temperatures, a drop in air humidity and a higher concentration of pollutants in the atmosphere during this period of the year, there is an increase in the proliferation of respiratory diseases. Not only sinusitis, but also rhinitis and rhinosinusitis are more common at these times of the year”, explains otorhinolaryngologist Priscila Espínola, from Hospital de Olhos Santa Luzia, a member of the Vision One network.
