The prices of many packs of twenty cigarettes and rolling tobacco will increase by 10 to 60 cents per 1is May in mainland France, in accordance with the government’s desire to pass on inflation to tobacco.

According to a document published by customs in April, most packs of twenty cigarettes will experience a price increase of 30 to 40 cents, such as the pack of Winfield red or that of Lucky Strike blue. Other brands will see more or less significant increases. Prices for 30-gram roll-your-own tobacco packets are also up by around 30 cents. The larger pots can take more than a euro. The packages of certain brands, such as Philip Morris, Winston or Marlboro, the best-selling in the world, remain unchanged. All types of Marlboro packages were already over 11 euros.

In September 2022, the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, had announced new increases in the prices of tobacco to come, so that they increase like inflation. “It would be quite paradoxical for the rise in cigarettes to be lower than inflation”that would mean that “finally, relatively, the price would drop”, she said. The Ministry of the Economy then announced that the social security financing bill (PLFSS) provided that the average price of the package, “today from 10.15 euros”would increase by “50 cents in 2023 and 35 cents in 2024”which the “will increase to 11 euros”.

This same 1is May, the minimum wage is revalued by 2.22%, according to a decree published in Official newspaper April 27.
