In Soviet times, frankly failed films were released, although this did not happen so often. One of the antihits was filmed by the great director Grigory Alexandrov, the creator of the films “Jolly Fellows” and “Volga-Volga”.
In 1974, the painting “Starling and Lyra” was released. Alexandrov acted as a director and screenwriter of the tape. He invited his wife and the legend of Soviet cinema, Lyubov Orlova, to play the main role. At the time of filming, the artist was already over 70, but according to the plot, she played a 30-year-old lady. It looked absurd.
The tape tells the story of spouses-scouts who at the beginning of World War II are being introduced into high German society. They continue their activities even following the victory over the Nazis. The film turned out to be so unsuccessful that it was banned from showing. According to one version, the officials did not want to spoil the reputation of Orlova and Alexandrov with this dubious film.
Even modern viewers who watched the picture were shocked by such a weak creation of the director:
