Today with LaPetitePelle we are obviously talking regarding the takeover of Activision-Blizzard which contained an unexpected twist. It’s a bad time for Microsoft.
It’s the biggest deal in video game history. The acquisition of Activision-Blizzard by Xbox promised Microsoft the exclusivity of games from the American giant for their consoles and their Cloud Gaming platform. This market of more than 70 million dollars (the largest in the history of the JV) was contested by many players in the industry, in particular Sony, considering this as more than unfair competition. However, everything smiled at the Windows company, the deal was regarding to be concluded. At the beginning of the year, the American giant had even reached an agreement with Nintendo and Nvidia to distribute Activision-Blizzard games on the products of these companies. All that was missing was the agreement of certain government institutions to finally finalize a deal that had been dragging on for just over a year now. If Xbox has obtained approval from the US FTC and the European Union, Microsoft was stopped short by the English CMA which considers this agreement between the two giants far too dangerous for the world of video games. Since then, Activision-Blizzard’s stock has fallen 10%. Microsoft spins a bad cotton.
