A young Senegalese who had just moved to Catalonia showed great courage by thwarting an attempted robbery with knives at a bank branch in Sabadell, Catalonia, on Monday April 24, 2023 around 8 a.m. . In the video shared on social networks, the Senegalese managed to immobilize the assailant and remove the weapon from him, thus allowing his arrest.
The robbery took place in a bank branch located in Matadepera street in Sabadell. A 36-year-old man armed with a blade threatened an employee behind the counter, demanding that he give him some money. The young Senegalese, who spoke neither Catalan nor Spanish, was present as a customer and immediately reacted by stepping in to help.

According to witnesses, the Senegalese confronted the attacker and managed to immobilize him and withdraw his weapon. Other bank employees and several customers also helped hold the assailant to the ground while waiting for the police to arrive. A video recording made by another customer shows the masked man wearing a hoodie threatening the bank employee, before being neutralized thanks to the intervention of the young Senegalese and others present.
Agency employees revealed that the young Senegalese had come to open his first bank account since arriving in the country. Following this act of bravery, the armed individual was arrested and the Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, will organize a ceremony in honor of the Senegalese citizen who prevented the robbery next Tuesday.
