Central African Republic Receives $191 Million from IMF for Urgent Public Services

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (Ocha), 56% of the Central African population will need protection in 2023. This is 10% more than last year. These approximately 191 million dollars should therefore make it possible to support the State budget.

A year ago, the government announced budget cuts. It was at a time when the Central African Republic had just lost the support of the IMF and the world Bank, two institutions that remain important donors to the country. At the time, the IMF asked that its money not be used to finance Wagner, this Russian paramilitary group present on Central African territory. The IMF makes no mention of this point in its press release. But the financial institution announces that it has already given the green light for the payment of a first tranche of financial assistance of $11.3 million.
