INTERVIEW

“This is excellent news”, savors Jacky Rihouet. At the microphone of Europe 1, the CEO of Intersport welcomes the decision of the Grenoble commercial court, this Friday, to choose the group’s takeover offer for Go Sport, a brand in receivership since January. The boss would like to thank “the employees of Go Sport who have officially supported us in the last few days, and also congratulate them for the work, in extremely difficult conditions”. The proposal of the French sports brand had the clear preference of the unions and staff representatives.

“A great satisfaction for the sports market”

For Jacky Rihouet, this recovery is “a great satisfaction for the sports market”. Concretely, this will result in a replenishment of stores, “and above all a climate of confidence restored to the Go Sport teams”, adds the CEO in the program. Europe 1 Evening Weekend.

After a year of transition in 2023, the boss announces the transformation of part of the park into Intersport stores, in particular the stores located in the Paris region. “Intersport is very strong where Go Sport is weak, and the group is precisely expecting complementarity.”

90% of jobs retained

In terms of jobs, the brand has undertaken to retain 90% (1,446 employees out of 1,574) and to keep 72 Go Sport stores open (out of 84). A recovery, therefore, which is not synonymous with the disappearance of the brand. “We want to develop a very innovative concept on the theme of the outdoors, which should see the light of day in the next three years”, advances Jacky Rihouet, who reveals “an ambitious development plan: more than 100 stores should be released of land for 2027”.

“We really have the ambition to take a significant market share in a natural market which is in full development”, adds the president and director of Intersport at the microphone of Mélina Facchin. Finally, this recovery should allow the group to establish itself more strongly in Paris and its suburbs, a market of “12 million consumers”, and more generally throughout France. “We are going to be close at the national level, and it is a very strong showcase in terms of marketing for sport”, concludes the CEO on Europe 1.
