Popular actor Ryan Reynolds and the Remington Group have reportedly prepared an offer of more than $1 billion to buy the Ottawa Senators and the Canadian Tire Centre.
According to what the Ottawa Sun daily reported on Friday, the Vancouverite and his business partner Christopher Bratty are aggressive in this matter, wanting to come to an agreement as quickly as possible. They would also agree to build a new arena closer to downtown. The LeBreton Flats site has been a priority for the team’s move for several years.

Even if this group succeeds in acquiring the National Hockey League franchise, it would be willing to do business with other Ottawa investors. The candidacy of Michael Andlauer, a minority owner of the Montreal Canadiens, would still be strong thanks to the contribution of some twenty local partners.
Reynolds met with Mayor Mark Sutcliffe last month and the latter said he was in favor of cooperating with the future owners and the National League.
Currently owned by the estate of Eugene Melnyk, the Senators might be sold by late spring. Banker Galatioto Sports Partners is handling the sale and has set May 15 as the deadline to submit an offer.
