5 mayors in the town of Arsal emphasized that “Amidst this unrelenting reluctance to dismantle state institutions as a framework regulating the relations of the Lebanese, and that vertical cleavage between them, the systematic investment of humanitarian files that affect the daily lives of the Lebanese, and the remaining crumbs of bread and hope, comes to employ the torments of People are marketing and floating the name of this or that, in a constitutional entitlement.”

In a statement, they asked, “If a new issue has occurred in the file of the displaced Syrians, then why is the Lebanese citizen and the displaced Syrian taken hostage and thrown into the eye of the storm, and deprived of health and humanitarian services?! Isn’t it enough for our town, Arsal, to have decades of chronic and successive neglect and deprivation, until the competent state agencies take precedence over them?” Closing health institutions and centers, which were run by displaced Syrians for more than ten years, under illegal cover and in full view of the authority, benefiting both Lebanese and Syrians?”

The mayors stressed that “this procedure has destroyed the opportunity to benefit our people in Arsal from the medical services they need, noting that the budget of 15 million dollars was decided to build a hospital in the town more than five years ago, and until today we do not know the fate of those budget”. They appealed to the competent authorities to “reverse their decision, and to assign a Lebanese medical staff to supervise and manage these health centers, in the service of our people and all those who benefit from them, in order to relieve their pain.”
