University of Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, expected in the first round of the NFL Draft, was passed over in the first 31 selections on Thursday night.
ESPN Network analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay both saw the Indianapolis Colts go for Levis in the final edition of their mock draft.
The Colts, however, turned to another fourth-round quarterback in Anthony Richardson of the University of Florida Gators.
Kiper believes Levis is the best player still available as Round 2 of the auction prepares in Kansas City.
The fact that Levis injured a toe in his left foot was considered “problematic” by at least one team, according to reporter Chris Mortensen.
Another club thought Levis might have to have surgery.
However, Levis says “the toe is well and truly healed” and is ready for the rest of his career.
Levis, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 229 lbs, has been compared to Buffalo Bills general Josh Allen, thanks to his powerful arm and above-average mobility for quarterbacks.
He spent the first two seasons of his NCAA career with Penn State, before transferring to Kentucky for his junior season.
His production as a senior player dwindled from the previous year; he had 2,406 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, compared to 2,826 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2021.
In addition, he has only two touchdowns in 2022, following having totaled nine in his junior year.
