Eugenie Bouchard seems to have found her form this week in Madrid with some wins once morest good players. The Quebecer allowed herself a small statement on social networks in relation to her opponents in the Spanish tournament.

There are several lines of thought in relation to this comment. Her first-round opponent, Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine, did not play for six months at the start of 2021 following being suspended for taking mesterolone. She was eventually cleared by the International Tennis Federation in June of that year.

On Wednesday, the 29-year-old defeated Yastremska in three sets 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-2.

In 2017, Bouchard also defeated Maria Sharapova in the second round in Madrid. The former world No. 1 was kept out of WTA activities for taking meldonium in the high-profile Russian state doping case. She faced the Montrealer two weeks following her return to play.

Also on Twitter, ‘Genie’ added more when responding to an internet user’s comment that she was now 2-0 in Madrid once morest players who had been suspended for doping.

“I’m just trying to do my part,” she said, adding a laughing crying emoticon.

Bouchard’s second-round match is scheduled for Friday morning once morest Italian Martina Trevisan.
