The former Zara flagship store opened under the Maag brand, owned by Lebanese retail and real estate conglomerate Daher Group.

Zara’s former flagship store in central Moscow opened on Wednesday under the Maag brand, owned by Lebanese retail and real estate conglomerate Daher Group.

More than 60 Maag stores are expected to open in malls across the country in the coming days.

Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said earlier that clothing stores of Inditex Group, owner of Zara, Bershka, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti and other chain stores, would open under new banners: Maag, Dub, Ecru et Vilet.

Inditex ceased operations in Russia on March 20, 2022, shortly following Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the military operation in Ukraine.

Like other Western brands, the fashion retailer closed all 502 stores and halted online sales.

In October, Inditex sold its Russian activities to the Daher group, thus marking the end of its activities in Russia.

The brand is following in the footsteps of fast-food KFC and other businesses that have reopened under new ownership in the country.

However, the retailer said it would consider returning through a franchise collaboration with Daher if market circumstances change.

Most major European and American companies shut down their operations in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine last year.
