In a serious development in the Sudanese armed conflict that threatens a new catastrophe, forces dressed in Rapid Support uniforms stormed the headquarters of the reference laboratory for public health in Khartoum, known as (Stack Lab), which is the oldest and largest central laboratory in Sudan, and dates back to its establishment almost a hundred years ago.

On the impact of this risky intrusion, the World Health Organization issued a warning two days ago that there is “a major biological threat in Khartoum, following one of the fighting parties took control of a reference laboratory containing highly dangerous, rapidly contagious measles and cholera pathogens.”

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health confirmed that it had contacted the leaders of the two parties in the army and the Rapid Support Forces, in order to exercise caution and spare the central area where the “Stack” factory is located, from bombing.

What happens inside the reference laboratory?!

In the details, reliable sources in the laboratory told Al-Arabiya.net that the aforementioned incident took place more than 4 days ago, when gunmen wearing rapid support uniforms stormed the five-storey building, intercepted the insurance staff at the factory and took off their mobile phones, and their forces quickly spread throughout the building. .

Accordingly, the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization were informed of the developments of events, because any mistake, no matter how small or unintentional, might lead to a disaster.

She also indicated that the laboratory includes viral samples of highly dangerous, rapidly transmissible and contagious diseases such as measles, tuberculosis, paralysis and cholera, in addition to modified samples of the emerging coronavirus (Covid 19).

She also stressed that power outages may cause damage to laboratory samples, examination aids, and other delicate and sensitive devices, warning that the situation may worsen if the power outage continues or the repair of the (cable) feeding the reference laboratory building and the Khartoum Cancer Hospital, “corn hospital” and Khartoum hospital is delayed. However, other sources revealed to Al-Arabiya.net different details, and said that the Rapid Support Forces took control of the building to take advantage of its strategic location on the Republican Palace Street, and near the Sudanese Army General Command, to monitor security and military developments.

She confirmed to Al-Arabiya.net that the members of those forces had ordered the generator to be turned off under the pretext of its loud roar, preventing them from following the roar of warplanes targeting their forces and positions.

Where is Stack located?!

The five-storey building of the laboratory occupies a privileged location in the heart of the capital, overlooking the Republican Palace Street, “one of the most important main streets in the center of Khartoum,” and is adjacent to Khartoum Hospital and the Corn Hospital for Oncology.

The establishment of the Stack Medical Laboratory dates back to 1924, almost a hundred years ago, and it was named following the English general Sir (Lee Stack), Sardar of the Egyptian army and the ruler of Sudan at the time, in memory of him following his assassination in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in November 1924.

It is also the headquarters of the voluntary blood donation program in Sudan, and the headquarters of the national program to combat AIDS. It also includes sections for several highly important and dangerous laboratories, such as (viruses lab, bacteria lab, diseased tissue lab, parasites lab, immunology lab, clinical chemistry lab, microbiology lab, epidemiological viruses lab, hematology lab, and tuberculosis lab.
