Asunción, IP Agency.- The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) “is moving to make Sunday a holiday” and above all, to guarantee transparent elections to strengthen Paraguayan democratic maturity.
The President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, received this Wednesday the OAS Electoral Observation Mission at the Government Palace. Yesterday he did the same with the European Union.
In a press conference, the head of said mission, Luís Lauredo, said that his presence in Paraguay is to contribute to transparent elections. First of all, so that the maturity and perfectionism of the country’s very well-established democratic process continues.
“We are with a team of more than 60 people, all of them technicians and with a lot of international experience,” Lauredo emphasized while specifying that the OAS has been in Paraguay 16 previous times, so they know how the electoral system works.
He stressed that the organization’s mission is to guarantee that this Sunday is a happy day and a day to celebrate a democracy that is maturing every day in the country.
He mentioned that they are available to both the current government and the one that will be elected this Sunday. In this sense, he thanked Mario Abdo Benítez for his kindness and support for his team. “We are all moving so that Sunday is a day of celebration”, he remarked.
He noted that the delegation has been in the country since March and argued that the team’s strong point is impartiality, transparency, and justice to solidify democracies in the hemisphere.
