Activists from the “dHELLaize” collective dumped motor oil in front of five Delhaize store entrances in Brussels overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, as a “response to the contempt of employers”, according to a press release.
The entrances to the Delhaize stores in Chazal, Hankar, Molière, Fort Jaco and De Fré were thus made impassable by activists in reaction, in particular, to the ban on picketing confirmed by the Dutch-speaking court of first instance in Brussels on 19 april.
“We condemn the justice system which sides with the multinational Ahold Delhaize by attacking the right to strike frontally. If strikes are prohibited, then entrances will become impracticable”, hammers the collective.
The action continues at the distribution center in Zellik
The filter dam installed on Wednesday by unions and workers at the distribution center of the supermarket chain Delhaize in Zellik, in the province of Flemish Brabant, continues Thursday morning. During the night, only one truck was authorized to leave every fifteen minutes, explains the spokesman of the sign, Roel Dekelver. Delhaize plans to react if the action is not halted.
“We deeply regret this action and ask that it be stopped as soon as possible”adds the spokesperson. “We did not intervene overnight, but we plan to do so in the next few hours if the filter dam is not lifted.”
Due to the action, only four trucks per hour can leave the distribution center. Delhaize is not yet able to estimate the impact on stores but “it is already significant” on logistics. “We are experiencing delays in supply,” confirmed Roel Dekelver.
A union source said on Wednesday that it was a “spontaneous action”. “The staff once once more show that they do not agree” with management strategy.
Staff and unions continue to protest once morest the franchising of Delhaize’s 128 self-managed stores. Social dialogue is totally blocked.
