CMV infection in pregnant women
If the pregnant woman has a healthy immune system, the cytomegalovirus infection progresses with few symptoms or usually even goes completely unnoticed. Only a fifth of women show signs of a cold such as headaches and body aches, slight swelling of the lymph nodes, fever and tiredness.
CMV infection of the baby in utero
In 10 percent of all children who are infected with the cytomegalovirus in the womb, symptoms appear, some damage is irreparable and can lead to physical and mental disability in the child.
