A vaccine booster campaign once morest COVID-19 is organized from April 27 to June 16, 2023.
Why and for who ?
Immune protection once morest COVID-19 decreases more rapidly over time in certain categories of people. In order to maintain a sufficient level of vaccine protection in them to limit the risk of serious forms, a spring vaccination booster is recommended. This concerns people:
- Aged 80 and over;
- Immunocompromised;
- Residing in an accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people (EHPAD) or a long-term care unit (USLD), regardless of their age;
- At very high risk of severe form according to each individual medical situation and within the framework of a decision shared with the healthcare team.
Although the booster dose is no longer recommended for the rest of the population, anyone wishing to receive a booster can benefit from it free of charge.
Which vaccines?
For this booster dose, it is recommended to preferentially use bivalent vaccines suitable for Omicron, regardless of the vaccine previously administered.
For people under 30: Comirnaty vaccines® from Pfizer-BioNTech are recommended.
For people who do not wish to receive a bivalent mRNA vaccine or who have a contraindication: VidPrevtyn Beta vaccines® by Sanofi and Nuvaxovid® of Novavax can be used as a booster.
What is the time between 2 reminders or following an infection?
The time limit following the last injection or infection is at least 6 months, regardless of the patient’s situation.
A reminder in the fall?
Given the decrease in vaccine protection over time and the additional protection provided by a booster dose, another anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign will be organized next fall-winter, at the same time as the flu campaign.
The time limit following the last injection or infection will also be 6 months.
