“Insufficient Vaccination Coverage in Guyana: A Report by Santé Publique France for European Vaccination Week 2023”

April 24-30, 2023 is European Vaccination Week. According to the results and studies carried out by Santé Publique France, vaccination coverage is insufficient and generally lower than the national level. Focus on the figures of our territory.

On the occasion of vaccination week, which takes place from April 24 to 30, Public Health France publishes a report on the vaccination of the departments of France. In Guyana,in general, vaccination coverage remains insufficient“, according to the health organization.

The numbers are as follows:

  • Against meningococcal C (in children and adolescents): 42% vaccination among 10-14 year olds (vs. 69% for the whole of France) and 29% among 15-19 year olds ;
  • Against meningococcal B: 14% at one dose (vs. 49%);
  • Against Human Papillomavirus (HPV): 25% at one dose and 18% at two doses in girls (vs. 49% and 42%) and 5% at one dose and 2% at two doses in boys (vs. 13% and 8%). Nevertheless, cervical cancer is the 3th most common cancer in Guyana ;
  • Influenza: 11% in people at risk aged under 65 and 18% in people aged 65 and over. The objective being 75%.

Santé Publique France also notes a drop in adherence to vaccination in general in Guyana between 2014 and 2021. 87% of people were in favor of it in 2014 compared to 72% in 2021.

Besides, concerning vaccination once morest covid specifically, unfavorable opinions were 40% with us.

In a territory where nearly 8,000 children are born every yearthe decline in adherence to vaccination in a context of already insufficient vaccination coverage and limited healthcare supply encourage continued efforts to improve protection through vaccination in Guyana“, adds the health organization.
