Be careful with direct sellers. Roza Uten, an 85-year-old Belgian, took out a new energy contract even though she has a social tariff. “My mother-in-law never dealt with energy contracts; Since her husband passed away, I’ve been doing all the paperwork,” Peter Vandebon, her son from Halen, told HBVL.
The latter learns that his mother has signed a new contract with Luminus, marking “the beginning of an administrative nightmare”. “At Luminus customer service, I was assured that the change had been reversed, but a few days later the confirmation of the contract still fell in the mail,” says Peter.
On a daily basis, he fights with Luminus, Total Energies and Fluvius. In the end, his mother is not a client anywhere. She was therefore going to lose her social tariff: “For me, it is a scam, all because a door-to-door salesman offered an 85-year-old woman a contract she did not need”.
For Luminus, “there was a problem during the cancellation of the contract”. The problem has since been resolved.
