OnePlus presented an attractive and promising Android tablet. However, by opting for this price, the Chinese brand is tackling a considerable challenge. Faced with the dominance of the iPad in the market, it will be difficult for OnePlus to impose itself and compete successfully.
After months of waiting, and even years, OnePlus today announced the launch date of its first tablet, the OnePlus Pad. It will be available for pre-order from April 28, at a price of 499 euros for the French market. While delivery is scheduled for May 8.
As a reminder, the OnePlus Pad tablet stands out with its all-metal design and its unique color, green.
It comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The tablet is equipped with an 11.6-inch IPS LCD screen and a 7:5 aspect ratio, ideal for reading books, consulting documents and browsing the web. The 9,510 mAh battery promises 14 hours of video playback and up to a month on standby, according to OnePlus.
OnePlus also announced the prices of OnePlus Pad accessories for the French market: the OnePlus Stylo (Pencil) at 99 euros, the OnePlus Magnetic Keyboard at 149 euros, the OnePlus Folio Case at 59 euros and the OnePlus 80W SUPERVOOC Adapter at 39 euros.
A late arrival
OnePlus is making a late entry into the tablet market, largely dominated by Apple and closely followed by Samsung. Players such as Xiaomi, Amazon and Huawei share the small remaining market shares. The launch of the OnePlus Pad at 500 euros demonstrates a certain ambition for a product that seems promising.
However, the iPad occupies such a dominant position in the market, especially in this price range, that it is difficult to envisage a resounding success for the OnePlus Pad.
