Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Egyptian journalist Bassem Youssef responded to statements attributed to the African-American actor, Kevin Hart, that his ancestors ruled Egypt and “built the pyramids” in Egypt, accusing him of “cultural appropriation.”

In his appearance with British journalist Piers Morgan, in response to Hart, Youssef said: “It is not related to white or black people, but rather to the process of cultural appropriation and the philosophy of history carried out by the followers of African centralism (Afrocentric).”

The Egyptian journalist added, saying that this movement “began the last century with a good goal of educating African Americans regarding the rich history of West Africa such as the great empire of Benin, Ghana and Mali…”.

And Youssef added, “That is why you find people like Kevin Hart who believes in these theories and claims that his ancestors built the pyramids. I am sorry, because your ancestors have a wonderful civilization in West Africa.”

The son of the late Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Alaa Mubarak, commented on Bassem Youssef’s words by saying: “You are absolutely right regarding that. I hit the truth on behalf of strong points, well done,” he said.

And the media had quoted statements by Hart, in which he said: “We must teach our children the true history of Africans when they were kings in Egypt, and not only the era of slavery that was reinforced by education in America. Do you remember the time when we were kings?”

The American actor was scheduled to perform in Egypt last February, but it was canceled for “logistical” reasons, according to the company.

R Production said in a statement on its Facebook page, last February: “Due to logistical problems locally, the cancellation of the Kevin Hart show, which was scheduled to take place on February 21 in Cairo, you have always shown us continuous support.” On all of our events, for which we are grateful, in the meantime, we ask for your patience as we work with the TicketsMarché team to make sure all refunds are honored in the shortest possible time,” the company said.
