The results also revealed that shipments of refurbished smartphones grew by 5% globally year-over-year. This contrasts markedly with shipments of new phones, which saw an 11.3% decline in 2022, according to research firm IDC.
Counterpoint said the global figure had been shifted by China’s 17% decline in sales of refurbished smartphones, a drop largely caused by the resurgence of the pandemic there, which has triggered a new wave of lockdowns that disrupt daily life.
