A quack that Alexandru Iftimie, the former Uber driver, does not want to miss. He is suing Uber for unfair dismissal.
But we must already put some context on the history of Alexandru. Originally from Romania, he came to the UK seven years ago. He becomes an Uber driver and starts to get by month following month. When the pandemic breaks out, he finally manages to live from it. But suddenly he receives a disturbing message: “We have detected fraudulent activity, so you must stop or you will be fired”
He decides to ignore the message, telling himself that it is surely a mistake. Having done nothing wrong, he does not imagine what will happen next. It will be necessary to wait two weeks to have a second more disturbing message: “This is the final warning. One more time and you’re done.”
The driver reacts and is expelled
After receiving this second warning, Alexandru contacts the driver assistance service. Except that the response he receives is more than astonishing. The reason is that he would have made a detour from his itinerary, without charging the customer for it.
Can you imagine how difficult it was to explain to an Uber operator that the Blackwall tunnel was closed on a ride, so I had to take a long detour?
But that wasn’t enough and he found himself banned from the Uber app. What remains surprising, because there was nothing fraudulent and especially if there was another reason, it had to be justified. This is where he decides to sue them.
Legal proceedings to win
The only solution was therefore to sue Uber. With the help of the unions, the App Drivers and Couriers Union, they asked to have the data that justified the dismissal.
Just before the procedure arrives in court, Uber wanted to apologize. But the problem is that the damage is done. Fortunately for Alexandru, he embarked on studies and bounced back in his life. Its objective is thus to allow other drivers deactivated by mistake by the AI to be reinstated.
