Burnley and Vincent Kompany won the Championship title following their away victory at Blackburn (0-1) during an alignment match for the account of the 38th day of the English Division 2 championship on Tuesday evening.
This result allows the Clarets to take a 13-point lead over Sheffield United and secure the crown two days from the end of the competition. Blades can only score a maximum of twelve points.
Despite a first half dominated by Blackburn, the two teams returned to the locker room with a score still blank at the scoreboard. In the second half, Manuel Benson, formerly of Genk, Mouscron, and Antwerp, opened the scoring, on the only shot on target of the match for Burnley, and thus offered the three points of the title (66th, 0-1).
