Court: The ORF has to pay Gerald Grosz 5000 euros

That was decided on Tuesday morning at the Vienna Regional Court for Criminal Matters. However, the first-instance judgment, which must also be published by the ORF, is not final. The ORF announced that it would appeal.

The reason is an interview with Grosz on ORF 2 for the 2022 federal presidential election. In it he said that he had never been in court. ORF journalist Susanne Schnabl then accused him of having been legally convicted of defamation. Grosz countered that he received a civil judgment for losing a media case.

“Disgraceful Judgment”

He asked her to withdraw the allegation of an instigated criminal conviction, which did not happen. “During the presidential election campaign, a few days before election day, I was indirectly accused of a criminal conviction that never existed. This judgment is embarrassing for the ORF,” Grosz said in a statement.

The blogger sees himself as a former challenger to Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen from ORF “defamed and slandered”.
