In recent days, the existence of an official program that offers a gift card to the digital nomads who stay in the country for more than three weeks. It’s regarding a credit up to US$500 to use in different tourist experiences.

First I thought it was a joke, I had to go to that site and even check if it was an official page.
Among Twitter users, the complaint was not only focused on “the gift of dollars”, but also on the fact that today the country is already very convenient for foreigners due to the rise in the price of the blue dollar. Yesterday, it closed at $462, that is, it is convenient for those who come from abroad to come with the tickets once more because the dollar card for tourists takes consumption at $411.
The truth is that the program has actually existed since the beginning of last year – it is called Digital Nomads Argentina– and is intended for foreigners who present a CV, a passport and their ticket.
“If the applicants are going to stay in the country for more than 30 days and their profile is consistent with what we want to stimulate, as Australia or Canada do with their controlled migration policies – this has nothing to do with Previaje -, they can access a gift card of up to US$500 payable in pesos in official exchange, and interchangeable for consumption of gastronomy, wellness or tourist experiences throughout the country”, explained to THE NATION Hernán Vanoli, director of the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (Inprotur).
According to Vanoli, remote workers or digital nomads are a segment of high-income travelers who, once in the country, spend more than twice as much as regular tourists, since they contract services, consume directly and not through tourism wholesalers.
“The objective of this policy is to invest in a specific segment in a surgical way, a segment that adds value, that generates business, compensating for the logistical, air-trade and customs disadvantages that Argentina has, in a virtuous policy since pesos are invested so that dollars are spent. The entire program is focused on encouraging nomads or remote workers not only to stay in Buenos Aires, but also to take advantage of other cities in the country,” he said.
Beyond this, there is also another Inprotur program that gives credit in dollars to ordinary tourists. Is called Argentine treasures. The greater the number of nights in the country, the higher the amount assigned to the card, for example: for three nights, US$30; up to six nights, US$40; for fifteen days, US$70; and so on points that can only be used in the country and that are paid in pesos.
“It is a small and surgical program, which only operates at times of low demand, and we are very happy with its results because airlines such as Gol, Sky, JetSmart and other regional ones also use it as a sales stimulus. The system is very easy because the person who wants to access the benefit voluntarily registers on our website, uploads an image of their passport, validates their air ticket and accesses the platform where they can choose and even reserve the benefits. At the moment around 10,000 tourists have used it”, Vanoli closed.
