Intrafamilial abuse of vulnerable adults: identify, act

2023-04-24 09:50:27

In 2023, the High Authority for Health (HAS) will develop a tool on “assessment of the risk of intra-family mistreatment of adults in vulnerable situations” and presents the approach in a framework note. She recalls that the number of telephone calls received by the national telephone platform 3977 for the fight once morest abuse of the elderly and adults with disabilities as well as its network of Alma centers (allo mistreatment) has been on an upward curve for several years. Among the incidents reported in 2021, more than 70% are at home and almost half are caused by family circles. Currently, there is no shared assessment tool with consensus.

This work should therefore allow professionals and non-professionals who are wondering regarding a possible case of abuse to:
– come together around a shared vocabulary of mistreatment;
– develop a common culture concerning intra-family mistreatment;
– identify risk factors and warning signs that might arouse their vigilance;
– better collect information while respecting privacy and the ties of attachment that unite family members;
– assess the situation globally by structuring their approach to questioning and analysis;
– better protect adults who are vulnerable or in a situation of vulnerability.
