On Saturday, shortly following 12:20 p.m., the Bern cantonal police received a report that a man had fallen in the Combe Grède gorge (Villeret municipality) and been seriously injured.
According to initial findings, a group of several people was busy with maintenance work in the gorge. During a shift on the mountain hiking trail, the man fell down an embankment for reasons that have yet to be clarified, where he was badly injured. Despite rescue measures immediately initiated by his companions and then by a Rega crew, the man succumbed to his severe injuries on the spot.
The deceased is a 57-year-old Swiss from the canton of Bern. In addition to specialists from the Bern canton police and a Rega crew, employees from the Swiss Alpine Rescue were on duty. The Care Team of the Canton of Bern was also called upon to look following the group. Under the direction of the regional public prosecutor’s office in Berner Jura-Seeland, the cantonal police in Bern have started investigations into the accident and its circumstances.
