At a time when Korea-China relations were strained due to President Yoon Seok-yeol’s remarks regarding Taiwan, the new ambassador to China, Jeong Jae-ho, met with President Xi Jinping and delivered President Yoon’s credentials.

Ambassadors from 70 or so countries, whose credentials were delayed due to COVID-19 quarantine issues, gathered at once, so it was difficult to exchange good comments like this.

On July 15 last year, President Seok-Yeol Yoon presented credentials to Ambassador to China Jeong Jae-Ho.

Credentials are the final approved documents exchanged between heads of state when diplomatic missions are dispatched.

Ambassador Jeong delivered the authentic copy of his credentials to Chinese President Xi Jinping only nine months following he took office in Beijing.

Due to the Corona 19 quarantine problem, the establishment of credentials was recorded as the latest case since Xi took office.

The 10th Ambassador Kwon Young-se and the 11th Ambassador Kim Jang-soo also had separate conversations for 20 and 30 minutes, respectively.

However, this time around 70 ambassadors gathered at once and it was difficult to exchange good wishes.

It is known that it was in the dark, from whether or not to be tested for Corona 19 or quarantined to the time and place of meeting President Xi.

It is also heard that the recent remarks by President Yoon on Taiwan reflected the strained relationship between Korea and China.

Ambassador Chung said that the Korean government respects the ‘one China principle’, and started to evolve, but the embers are still there.

This is because the interview with President Yoon and Archyde.com was a form of answering questions in advance, so it is interpreted as a well-thought-out remark.

China is expected to continue to send check signals, keeping an eye on the level of the Taiwan-related joint statement at this week’s Korea-US summit.
