The funeral of Charles-Ferdinand was celebrated this Monday, April 24, 2023 in Habay-la-Neuve
The former Minister of the Interior, Minister of State, who died on April 19, 2023 at the age of 86, was entitled to a state funeral.

This Monday, April 24, 2023, Minister of State Charles-Ferdinand Nothomb was entitled to a state funeral. An exceptional tribute, which does not take place every year in Belgium. In other words, it is extremely rare for such funerals to be organized in the province of Luxembourg.
A state funeral involves a special protocol. The federal government is officially represented by at least one of its ministers. The king is also represented. A military delegation is present. The Belgian flag too. And the national anthem is played.
To be entitled to a state funeral, one must either be a member of the royal family, be an active federal minister, or be the president of a national assembly, be a minister-president or a minister of state. We should add that the Council of Ministers can decide to grant a state funeral to any person.
Ultimate condition: the family of the deceased must agree.
