The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. A car crashed into the wall of the Rupel tunnel at high speed, before catching fire. The driver did not survive.
The victim was a 20 year old young man. “Jens was a great guy with a heart on his sleeve,” explained one of his friends to our colleagues from Gazet van Antwerpen.
We do not yet know the circumstances of this tragedy. On the tunnel surveillance cameras, we see the young man’s Volkswagen change course and crash into the wall. According to witnesses, the speed might be involved, but it is up to an expert to determine what really happened.
“Jens was always ready to help others and make people laugh when needed. He was not the type of guy to brag regarding having a big car, on the contrary, he liked the little things in life and lived hand to mouth”.
