The next few months will be crucial for the future of France Télévisions. The negotiations around the new contracts of objectives and means (COM) defining the missions and the budgetary trajectory of public broadcasting until 2028 enter the heart of the matter. The public television group comes, like Radio France, from collect the end of the fee. And like everywhere in Europe, the place of public broadcasting is arousing a lot of debate. For the company led by Delphine Ernotte Cunci, the challenge is to perpetuate a financing mechanism – in the continuity of the backing to VAT? – which does not make it too dependent on the vagaries of the State budget.
But perhaps above all to convince the public authorities that France Télévisions is essential enough in this troubled media period for it to be given the means to develop instead of cutting its budget. Its president Delphine Ernotte Cunci has long insisted that her group can no longer live to the rhythm of budgetary sacrifices.
