Uganda: CRBC wins $53.2 million contract to rehabilitate a section of the Northern Rail Corridor
The Ugandan government signed, on April 13, a contract worth 199 billion shillings (53.2 million USD) with the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for the continuation of the rehabilitation of the metric gauge railway line Tororo -Gulu which connects eastern and northern Uganda to the port of Mombasa (Kenya).
The project covers a section of 375 km and concerns, among other things, the rehabilitation of the railway network, the construction of railway structures and the installation of signalling. The work is expected to last 2 years and will eventually bring the total distance of the northern corridor to more than 700 linear km.
Guinea: Conakry’s Kagbelen interchange open to traffic
The Kagbelen interchange was inaugurated on April 18 by the Guinean authorities, in the presence of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who is visiting Conakry. This work of art, the construction of which started in 2021, is an essential infrastructure for interconnecting the capital with the interior regions of Guinea.
DRC: 500 new public transport buses will be deployed in Kinshasa in 2023
The DRC Ministry of Transport has announced the deployment in the coming months of 500 new public transport buses in Kinshasa. “Central Motors will deliver 500 buses with 27 seats ordered by the government, of which 60% of the overall envelope has already been paid”, said Ibrahim Issaoui, CEO of Central Motors, winner of the purchase market on behalf of the State.
According to him, a first batch of 100 buses has already been received and stored at the company’s headquarters in the capital, while another wave of 200 buses is being shipped and should arrive next May. The last batch of 200 units is expected for July 2023.
Air transport: the upcoming launch of Guinea-Bissau Airlines announced
The Bissau-Guinean government plans to launch Guinea-Bissau Airlines soon, according to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aristides Ocante da Silva, who revealed the signing of an agreement with the Canadian company Jitaa Aeronautics. The latter will hold 70% of the shares of the carrier, once morest 30% for the State.
The new national airline will operate domestic flights and liaise with countries in the sub-region and the rest of the world, the minister said.
