Field associations in favor of the homeless will mobilize on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in front of the town hall of Liège to express their support for this disadvantaged public. From May, Securail will begin work to prevent access to the car park at Liège-Guillemins station.
The covered car park at Liège-Guillemins station has served as a makeshift shelter for around forty homeless people for several years, these associations point out. In early May, however, Securail will begin work to install a device that will close access. Only holders of a parking ticket will then be able to access it.
The associations also plan to challenge politicians before the municipal council.
They are calling for a moratorium on this expulsion, said Frédéric Pleyers, for the non-profit organization Benoît et Michel. The field associations are also asking for the setting up of a multidisciplinary intervention unit to offer individualized psycho-medico-social support and a “sustainable and adapted” response concerning overnight accommodation.
