Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Tersa waited almost 10 years before attending a new wedding for one of their five children. This Saturday April 22, 2023, the Grand Ducal family was gathered to attend the civil wedding of the only daughter of the family, Princess Alexandra, with Nicolas Bagory. The population was invited to cheer the newlyweds as they left the Town Hall in the followingnoon.

On April 22, 2023, Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg joined a civil union with Nicolas Bagory. The fourth of the five children of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa will marry religiously in Bormes-les-Mimosas, in the Var, next Saturday. Representatives from all over Gotha are expected on April 29, due to the Grand Ducal family’s close proximity to most European royal families.

The Grand Ducal family left the Grand Ducal Palace at 3 p.m. and reached Place Guillaume II, where the Luxembourg City Hall is located, on foot, under a fine rain. The newlyweds arrived first on the Knuedler, the familiar name given to this central square in the capital, where an equestrian statue of William II sits enthroned. Only half an hour later, their fate was sealed administratively by Lydie Polfer, mayor of the City of Luxembourg. Nicolas Bagory, 34, officially joined the Grand Ducal family on April 22, becoming the only son-in-law of the Head of State.

After the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds appeared in the square, to the cheers of the crowd. Princess Alexandra, 32, relatively discreet and publicly present at some official and family events, is already more used than her young husband to public events.

Nicolas Bagory has not yet accompanied the grand-ducal family during family events and he had never been seen in public alongside Alexandra until today. Since the announcement of the engagement, the Luxembourgers had contented themselves with a single official photo of the couple, shared by the Grand Ducal Court, where one might discover for the first time the face of the lucky one.

The last marriage in the Grand Ducal family dates back 10 years. In September 2013, Prince Félix, second son of the Grand Ducal couple, married Claire Lademacher. The couple now have two children: Princess Amalia and Prince Liam of Nassau, born in 2014 and 2016. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, the sovereigns’ first child, married Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy in 2012. Guillaume and Stéphanie are the parents of Prince Charles, born in 2020, and Prince Francis, born a month ago.

Prince Louis, the Grand Ducal couple’s third son, was married and then divorced Tessy Antony, with whom he had two sons, the eldest grandchildren of the sovereigns: Prince Gabriel and Prince Noah of Nassau, born in 2006 and 2007. In April 2021, the Grand Ducal Court announced the engagement of Prince Louis with Scarlett-Lauren Sirgue, promising a beautiful marriage. The engagement had been broken in February 2022. Prince Sébastien, fifth and last child of the siblings, is still single.
