Dakar, April 22 (APS) – Part of the Senegalese Muslim community is celebrating Eid el-Fitr this Saturday, at the call of the National Commission for Consultation on the Lunar Crescent (CONACOL).
The other party celebrated Korité on Friday, like Muslims in other countries, including Saudi Arabia and France.
This Saturday, the Head of State, Macky Sall, will perform the Eid prayer at the great mosque of Dakar in the presence of members of the government and numerous administrative and religious authorities.
At the Massalikul Jinaan mosque in Dakar, the prayer marking the end of the blessed month of Ramadan will be held under the direction of Imam Serigne Moustapha Mbacké ibn Serigne Abdou Khadre Mbacké, announces a press release received by APS.
It will begin at 10 a.m. inside the mosque in the presence of the government delegation and religious and customary authorities.
On the occasion of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the Head of State granted pardon to 586 detainees, we learned on Friday from the Ministry of Justice.
”On this eve of the feast of Korité, announces a press release from the said ministry, the President of the Republic, in accordance with the Constitution and faithful to the republican tradition, granted his pardon to 586 people convicted of various offenses and detained in establishments country’s penitentiaries.
The text specifies that ”the beneficiaries of this measure of leniency are first offenders, detainees with pledges of resocialization or elderly, seriously ill individuals and minors”.
By granting them a pardon, ”the Head of State thus offers a category of citizens, momentarily in conflict with the law, the opportunity to reunite with their families and take advantage of this chance granted to them to reintegrate into society”, emphasizes the Ministry of Justice.
