Card thefts Pokémon rare and precious continue once more and once more. This time, three very large-scale thefts took place a few days ago, including one in particular which even required the intervention of The Pokemon Company.
Thefts in the production lines?
This is the online store Trading Card World, which also runs the largest Facebook group for buying, selling, and trading Pokémon cards, which reported the first theft. The company explained that they had been contacted by an individual who wanted to sell them a large quantity of very rare cards. The cards in question were from the series Fusion Strikereleased in 2021.
Given the number of cards and their rarity, Trading Card World estimated that the cards offered by the individual were probably fake or stolen. Without going into too much detail, the company would have confronted the seller who would have revealed his sources.
Following this news, another player came forward to share a similar experience. The Facebook user posted a photo of dozens of high-value cards, allegedly sent to him by a friend, with the caption: “It probably happened with [la série de cartes Evolving Skies]Also.”
Many people in the comments seem suspect theft directly from the production line.
Finally, another Pokemon card collector shared a photo from a now-deleted Facebook post from a local Pokemon group in Texas, which shows hundreds of rare cards, also from the Fusion Strike series, that an individual would have tried to resell to a local game store.
The Facebook user claims it would be downrighta printing press employee who would have stolen these cards, also on the production line.
The Pokemon Company involved
If the last two stories cannot be corroborated for lack of evidence, the one concerning Trading Card World is indeed serious. Indeed, given the magnitude of the offer received, the online store would have decided to contact The Pokemon Company directly to inform them of the seriousness of the theft.
The two companies collaborated to recover the cards in question, with success. Trading Card World has also called it the “largest return of stolen goods to date“.
The Pokemon Company has yet to officially comment on the theft. Could we be dealing with a real Team Rocket stealing rare Pokémon cards on a large scale?
