The former editor-in-chief Walter Hämmerle turns his back on the “Wiener Zeitung”.
The journalist informed his colleagues on Friday that he had signed an amicable contract termination, reports the online “Standard”. Hämmerle was editor-in-chief of the paper from 2018 to the end of 2022, following which he remained as editor.
The oldest daily newspaper in the world still appearing in printed form is to appear primarily as an online medium in the future. This reform, which Hämmerle vehemently opposed, is to be decided in the National Council next week. Even when he retired as editor-in-chief, he no longer saw a future for himself at the “Wiener Zeitung”, but was still hoping for a “miracle”.
